How it works
- 1. Choose the stage and curriculum area.
- 2. Type your topic. Heapso suggests matching Es&Os; pick the ones you're teaching.
- 3. Pip drafts the plan, with the Es&Os, success criteria and activities. Edit anything.
Questions teachers ask
- Which Es&Os does Heapso include?
- All of them, early to fourth level: expressive arts, health and wellbeing, languages (including literacy, Gàidhlig, Gaelic learners, modern and classical languages), mathematics and numeracy, RME and RERC, sciences, social studies and technologies. The text and codes are Education Scotland's, unchanged.
- Two modern languages statements are missing. Why?
- Education Scotland's documents print them as "MLAN 1-03" and "MLAN 1-06", without the final letter, so we can't link them to a code. Add them to your plan as your own learning intention.
- Is a level the same as a year group?
- No. Levels are typical stages (first level is usually P2 to P4) and pupils move on when they're ready. Pick the level your class is working at.
- What happens with the new curriculum?
- Education Scotland is redesigning the curriculum through its Curriculum Improvement Cycle. The Scottish Government says the new curriculum will be taught from August 2028. Until then, the current Es&Os stay in place.
- Do you include the Benchmarks?
- No. Each curriculum area page links to Education Scotland's Benchmarks.
- Does Heapso plan for Curriculum for Excellence?
- Yes. Set your curriculum to Scotland in Settings, pick the stage (Nursery, P1 to P7 or S1 to S6) and curriculum area, and add the experiences and outcomes you're teaching. Pip writes in British English and cites only the codes you choose.
