Subjects A to Z

Wales and Northern Ireland

GCSE qualifications taken in Wales are awarded by WJEC and regulated by Qualifications Wales. Northern Ireland schools use CCEA and some England boards. In Northern Ireland, GCSE is usually taught in Year 11 and Year 12.

Questions teachers ask

Can Heapso write to my exam board's GCSE specification?
Choose the subject and add your board's specification, and Heapso plans to that subject at GCSE. Check topic coverage against the board's own specification, which we link to. Heapso never copies specification content.
Why do some subjects show no specification code?
We only show codes we have checked on the exam board's own website. CCEA's subject pages don't show codes, so CCEA specifications are listed by name. If a code is missing, follow the link to the board.
When is GCSE taught?
GCSE courses are usually taught in Years 10 and 11 in England and Wales, Years 11 and 12 in Northern Ireland.

Specification names and codes belong to the exam boards. Heapso links to each board's own specification and does not reproduce it. Codes checked on each board's website on 18 October 2026.
