Questions teachers ask

Which version of the national curriculum does Heapso use?
The current national curriculum in England programmes of study (first taught from September 2014, with later updates). The government plans a revised national curriculum for first teaching from September 2028. We will update Heapso when the new programmes of study are published.
Is Heapso linked to the Department for Education or an exam board?
No. Heapso is independent. We reproduce curriculum statements that the government publishes under the Open Government Licence, and we link to exam board specifications without copying them.
Does Heapso cover academies and free schools?
Yes. Academies do not have to follow the national curriculum, but many plan against it. You can plan with or without curriculum references.
Is the Reception year covered?
Yes, through the EYFS early learning goals. The goals describe the expected level at the end of Reception; they are not a curriculum to teach item by item.
