About the SACE
- The SACE is South Australia's senior secondary certificate, run by the SACE Board of South Australia.
- The Northern Territory awards its own certificate, the NTCET, which uses SACE subjects, with Stage 2 moderation and marking by the SACE Board.
- It is studied in two stages: Stage 1, usually in Year 11, and Stage 2, usually in Year 12.
- Students need 200 credits to complete the SACE.
- Compulsory requirements total 50 credits: Exploring Identities and Futures (Stage 1, 10 credits), literacy through an English subject (20 credits), numeracy through a mathematics subject (10 credits) and Activating Identities and Futures (Stage 2, 10 credits).
- At least 60 further credits must be at Stage 2, with a C- or better; Stage 1 compulsory subjects need a C or better.
- From 2025, Activating Identities and Futures is the compulsory Stage 2 subject.
- Stage 1 subjects are assessed by the school; Stage 2 subjects are about 70% school assessment (moderated) and 30% external assessment, such as an exam, performance or investigation marked by SACE markers.
- Each subject has a published SACE subject code, for example 2BGY20 for Stage 2 Biology (20 credits).
